FAMILIAL RISK CLINIC/CANCER GENETIC CLINIC

A referral by your doctor to an appointment in the genetic clinic is based on very defined criteria.

NON-ELIGIBLE INDIVIDUALS

What happens if an individual is not eligible for a high-risk appointment?

If you only have a second-degree relative with colorectal cancer, e.g., a grandmother, especially one diagnosed after the age of 60, you do NOT have a worrying family risk.

For this reason, you will not be referred for a high-risk consultation, unless there is additional information (e.g., if there are other family members with HNPCC–associated cancers).

Since the risk is assessed based on family history, be sure to update your doctor if there are changes in this history.

Your doctor will be there to help if you have any questions, and will ensure that you will be screened for this and other sporadic cancers.
